GALATAPORT WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT

Status : Under Construction
Location : Istanbul, Turkey
Year : 2014-2022
Architect : Gensler in collaboration with Studio Dror Consultants : JCFO, NORM Architects, BEA Architect; MPI, JLL, BuroHappold

Project Role : Associate & Member of overall project design team - Each member's primary design & documentation focus during documentation phases was on a "block" by "block" basis. Primary design & documentation effort was on "L" block which comprises all of the imagery illustrated below. The overlap of design & documentation schedules required that we simultaneously produced models, documentation, details & imagery as we developed our DD design package in tandem with the drawing sets. Models, details, drawings & corresponding imagery below relate to the “L Block” section of the project I was responsible for developing.

  • A winning competition in collaboration with Studio Dror to redesign the Galataport cruise terminal & incorporate a mixed use retail hub in the Galata neighborhood of Istanbul.  The scheme utilizes a strategy of “pixelization” to break up & organize the large program while incorporating an elevated streetscape to double the retail frontage available. The site encompasses two distinct waterfronts along the Bosphorus: the historical Karaköy Quay and the industrial Salipazari Quay and looks to revitalize the identity of the area while paying homage to its deep history and character.
